Care
Caring for merino.
Merino is resilient, but it has its preferences. Look after these pieces and they will outlast almost everything else in your wardrobe.
Washing
Hand wash in cold water, or machine wash on a wool programme at 30°C, spin at 600rpm or less. Turn inside out before washing. Use a wool detergent without enzymes or bleach. No fabric conditioner. It breaks down the fibre over time.
Drying
Do not wring. Press gently in a clean towel, then lay flat to dry away from direct heat. Never hang a wet merino piece. The weight of the water pulls it out of shape.
Storing
Store folded, not on a hanger. Wool kept under tension loses its shape at the shoulder. Cedar in the drawer is a natural deterrent for moths.
Pilling
Some pilling is natural with fine wool, particularly in areas of friction. Remove pills gently with a fabric comb when they appear. The piece will settle with wear.
