About

Made to be worn. Not to be replaced.

We started Aeteria because "Made in Italy" had stopped meaning very much. So we went looking for what it actually meant: a family in Verona who have knitted wool since 1975, a yarn spun in the mills of Biella, labels made in Modena. Edition 01 is where we begin, entirely Italian from the first fibre to the finished label.

The edition model

There was plenty of knitwear available. What was harder to find was knitwear that was honest about where it came from, what it was made of, and why it was made the way it was. We wanted something different, so we went looking for it properly.

We visited a lot of knitwear makers before we found the right one. The family in Verona understood why every decision mattered: the wool chosen for that season, the fit designed for a specific body. Nothing was left to chance.

Each edition is made from wool chosen for a specific time of year, in a limited run. When the season changes, so does the collection.

The material

What it is

Finding the right wool took as much care as finding the right maker. Virgin merino, meaning it has never been processed before, comes from sheep raised across Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, and not every season produces the same quality. The selection reflects that. What goes into an Aeteria piece is chosen from what the finest flocks produce at that particular time of year, spun into yarn in Biella in the foothills of the Italian Alps, where wool workers have operated since 1245. The fineness of the fibre is what sets it apart from most of what is sold as premium wool. You can feel the difference the moment you pick it up.

How it feels

Pure merino worn directly against the skin feels different from what most people expect of wool. There is no scratch, no itch, no need for anything underneath. It is warm where you need it warm and breathable where you don't. The weight of it settles on you in a way that lighter, synthetic fabrics never quite manage, and the warmth builds slowly and holds. Most people find they stop noticing what they are wearing and start noticing how the day feels instead.

The making

The pieces are knitted in Verona by a family who have worked wool since 1975. When we visited, the workroom was almost entirely women, most of them local, many working hours that let them be home for their children in the afternoon. It is the kind of place where the work is taken seriously because the people doing it have chosen it, and you can feel that in the pieces. Each one is knitted individually and finished by hand. Small variations between pieces are a natural consequence of the making, and we consider them a mark of it. The standard we hold is straightforward: every piece has to be something we would keep.
